See Ya 2017!!!

by - January 01, 2018

I'll spare you the whole "I can't believe 2017 is already over" schtick because it was a rough year for me personally so I couldn't be happier that it has come to an end! However, I do think 2018 is going to be great......or at least I'm really hoping so anyway (fingers crossed). I thought in the spirit of a new year, I would recap 2017 and tell you my hopes and plans for 2018.

2017 Recap

Let's skip past the beginning of 2017 because it's safe to say, politically speaking, this was a rough start to the year for our country. I did my best to power through this rough patch and thankfully I did come out the other side somewhat unscathed.

The Middle half of the year was a lot more interesting because I started my second year in college, though it felt more like my fifth. Unlike last year.....I struggled getting back into the swing of things. I hit many speed bumps as I tried assimilating back into college life, many mistakes were made, I even slept through a mid-term exam (yikes!). Towards the end though I somehow managed to come out of it with okay grades.

My mental health was probably the worst it has ever been this year. Part of this was due to the news and just an overall feeling of yuckiness that 2017 brought with it. There were some bright spots thankfully though, one being that my mom and brother came to visit me as a surprise for my birthday and they really did lift my spirits! Family is really great at being there when you really need them. The other bright spot happened to be the holidays! I really through myself into the holiday spirit this year and I have to say, it did really help to lift my spirits!

Even though 2017 was probably one of the worst years I've had in a while, it did teach me some valuable lessons that I definitely needed to learn. There was so much devastation in the form of natural disasters and the lesson it taught me was to be thankful for what I have even if it's not ideal because some people have lost everything in those natural disasters. I also learned the importance of being present and taking more time to spend with family. My parents are getting older which is a constant reminder to me that I need to spend as much time with them as I possibly can.

2017 also taught me about self-love. For the longest time, I've felt like I wasn't good enough or that there were things I needed to change about myself in order to find a partner in life, but with the sexual assault and harassment scandals and the election, I learned how important it is to put myself first and realize that I shouldn't try to fix myself and that it's okay to be alone.

Looking ahead, I hope (and feel) this year is going to be the best yet! As cheesy as it sounds, a new year means a fresh start and new beginnings and that's exactly what I need. For starters, I'm going to put into practice more time meditating and mindfulness. I also plan to exercise more and eat healthy because I truly believe what you eat and lack of exercise can really contribute to mental health problems.

As far as school, I plan to put more focus on my studies and not procrastinate as much as I did in 2017. I start back next week so that is a plan I can put in place right away. I'm getting closer and closer to obtaining my degree and I couldn't be more excited to start my career as an Accountant!

For the blog, I'm hoping to write more posts and contribute more interesting and valuable content as well as being more personal and sharing my private life with you guys! My blog really is a passion of mine so I don't intend on abandoning it ever. Thanks for following along these past four years! It really has been so much fun for me!!

Sorry, if this post started off a bit negatively, but I feel like if I'm going to be more open and honest, I have to share the bad along with the good. Thanks for reading and I hope 2018 is your best year yet!!!
